1. What is on your mind?
Mind Map your thoughts
Learning how to come up with ideas is about thinking about what's on your mind with mind mapping; and how you want to express it (metaphor, simile, as an action) and how to show it best (synetics). You might benefit by looking at the nine themes. Also consider materials and techniques for inspiration.

Found Poetry
Choose words on a page, circle or black out the others. Begin to illustrate with design or images right on the page itself.
2. How can you show that thought ?- Metaphor, simile, analogy
Simile is a comparison between what’s on your idea and something else using the word like, metaphor as a comparison without using the word like. Analogy is a similar situation.
For me it’s thinking about how can my idea represented through something else visually? The use of metaphor simile let’s what’s on her mind become less literal. Make sure that you use your mind map and generate a metaphor using a couple of your ideas. I used a dandelion and a roadmap in my painting When you draw from metaphor or simile what you draw becomes more personal and instinctual.

Take a few random words to force a connect and spur an idea. Maybe you can use a few random ideas along with what you are currently thinking of drawing. I also have a basket of words to help.
